Apple unveiled the new iPod touch today at their special event, along with several other music- and media-related devices. Of course, we’ve been hearing murmurs and leaks about it for some time now, and the new device pretty much tallies with our expectations.

The two big improvements are the Retina screen and the dual cameras. Steve called it the “iPhone without a contract.” How candid!

Sharp shared some 3D camera goodness with Pocket-lint, just before they announced it at IFA today. In particular, Sharp revealed that they are working on a prototype for the iPhone 4 and Samsung Galaxy S that will use two cameras built into a mobile device to shoot 3D footage. The concept device uses a lenticular lens to allow viewers to see an image in 3D without the use of glasses, making it ideal for a mobile phone, or other device. Sharp was extremely close lipped about when and where the new camera would start showing up, but the rep did say they were planning on launching something before the end of the year. Sharp is also showing of two other 3D screens today, a 3.8 and a monstrous 10.1 inch.. Neither of which will require 3D glasses to work.

Matt & Kim – “Cameras”

Matt & Kim’s new single, “Camera” is the funky tube-powered Summer’s End jam many of us have been waiting for; get ready to blast this in all white on Labor Day next Monday.

“Cameras” is the first piece of new music from the indie-pop duo since their critically acclaimed breakthrough LP, Grand. I’m assuming an announcement of a follow-up album to last year’s excellent Grand will soon follow. But for now, we only have “Cameras” (which you can buy on iTunes). You can hear the song below:

Eco Factor: Artwork created from eco-friendly materials.

We’ve frequently written about artwork created from environmentally friendly materials by eco-conscious artists, and from what we have already seen, cardboard seems to be the ideal material for most artists. American artist Kiel Johnson, who has already received numerous awards for his unique pieces of art, has now come up with cameras that are made from cardboard.

The designer, whose works normally represent near-obsolete machines, has beautifully crafted a range of cameras from cardboard. The collection includes SLRs, Polaroid cameras, point and shoot cameras, twin lens cameras and the retro 8mm cameras.

Wyoming High School Upgrades to IP Cameras

The 42-acre Cody High School in Wyoming has switched to an IP-based video system to replace analog cameras. The new equipment–including 80 indoor and outdoor network cameras–comes from Axis Communications.

The video captured by the school's decade-old analog video cameras yielded too few details to be useful–especially at night when most incidents occur, the district said in a statement. It decided an IP-based surveillance system with higher image quality and more advanced features would provide much better forensic detail, act as a deterrent for vandalism, and enable quicker and easier video searches following a security event.

“The video from our old analog camera system was so pixilated, we only identified culprits about 15 percent of time,” said Principal Brandon Jensen. “Our new Axis cameras have such amazing image clarity that so far we've been able to identify who was doing what 100 percent of the time.”

The installation was done by ISC, an Axis reseller based in Casper. The network integrator recommended AXIS 214 pan/tilt/zoom cameras and AXIS 225FD fixed dome cameras on building exteriors to cover entry doors, the senior parking lot, bus loading zone, and adjoining parks and recreation areas. The company deployed AXIS P3301 fixed dome cameras inside the high school to cover hallways, stairwells, the gymnasium and common areas, as well as outside bathrooms and classrooms.

School administrative and security staff are using NetDVMS, OnSSI's video management system, to monitor and manage the video and to control the cameras over the school's fiber network.

The high school has the cameras set to trigger recording based on motion detection. When a user needs to locate a specific video clip, the video management software uses a “Smart search” function to scan archived video for missing objects. The user specifies an area within a field of view, such as a laptop sitting on a table, then instructs the program to compare pixels in multiple frames to identify when that object disappears.

In other Axis news, the company has introduced seven video “kits,” which each include four network cameras and monitoring and recording software. The kits are priced between $799 and $1,999 and can be extended by adding additional cameras and upgrading the license for the software.

Hello!

I had my 3-year-old Kodak Easyshare digital camera stolen last month from my house and I'm looking into buying a new one for my upcoming vacation this month to Colorado. I generally take pics of animals, nature, and my family. I would love it to work well in low light too. I want a camera I could use for years as I would've still been using my Kodak if it weren't stolen!

I would also like to purchase from my local Best Buy and I have found two cameras that I really like.

This Samsung:

Samsung – 12.0-Megapixel Digital Camera – Black – HZ30W Black HZ30W&cp=1&lp=1

I like the zoom on it and the scene modes

Or another Kodak Easyshare (my last one was only 7.1 mp but had a 10 or 12 zoom-this one has WAY more zoom and mp and more optical zoom than the Samsung):

Kodak – EasyShare 14.0-Megapixel Digital Camera – Black – Z981 Black EasyShare Z981 &cp=1&lp=1

Which is the better brand overall-Kodak or Samsung? The Kodak is $100 dollars more but has more optical zoom (which I've heard is what to look for nowadays b/c EVERY camera now has pretty good mexapixels). The Samsung goes off sale on Saturday at midnight according to a bestbuy.com representative so I have to act fast.

Or is there ANOTHER camera that's great but won't go over $300?

Another question is I still have my old Kodak battery charger from the other camera but will it work for a newer Kodak camera or a Samsung or are the batteries shaped different between brands?

Thanks in advance!

Whisky: The youngster is believed to have drunk around half a bottle of the spirit. Pic: &copy STV

A 12-year-old boy had to be rushed to hospital after his drunken babysitter supplied him with whisky.

Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard on Tuesday that the youngster was discovered in a semi-conscious state and taken to A&E, where he had to be put on an intra-venous drip.

Patrick Glynn was already under the influence when he took the boy, who cannot be identified, into his care and gave him four glasses of whisky, which he estimated to be around a quarter bottle of the spirit.

Fiscal depute Melanie Ward said: "The child then went off with the bottle of whisky into the bathroom and consumed approximately a further quarter of the bottle.

"There were two stages, the actual giving and then the not supervising and ensuring the child was stopped drinking.

"The child began to vomit, fell into a state of semi-consciousness and was found by the accused's girlfriend, who telephoned an ambulance."

Ms Ward added that a witness saw the boy was incapable of lifting up his head.

She said: "Police were instructed to attend also and he was placed in the recovery position before being taken to the Sick Children's Hospital. He was treated at hospital with intravenous fluids and released the following day."

Glynn, 39, from Edinburgh’s Craigmount area, admitted wilfully and recklessly supplying the 12-year-old boy with whisky on November 28 last year, knowing that the consumption could be injurious to his health.

Defence agent Ian Tweedie said: "Glynn accepts he was under the influence and he continued to drink and he gave the child a certain quantity of alcohol and failed to supervise him thereafter.

"Had he not been so intoxicated himself he would have realised the bottle had been taken and would have put two and two together."

Mr Tweedie added that Glynn did not have experience of bringing children up which he believed contributed to the offence occurring.

Sheriff Isabella McColl ordered background reports and deferred sentence until October.

My childcare plans for the weekend fell through, so it looks like I'll be bringing my 8 and 10 year old to Iowa City with me. They certainly can't sit in a hotel room for 6-8 hours while mom and dad go to a game, (although I am sure if there's Nickelodeon on TV they'd give it a try) so unless I find some stranger to watch them, I'll need two more tickets to the game.

Does anybody have any tickets for a "reasonable" price. I probably will just have them sit with me and need the tickets just to get in. I am in section 115, (south endzone), row 5.

If not, what do you all think the chances are that I can get tickets at the game?

Hello and good day,

I have a super silly fun 15 month old boy and I am looking for help on Tuesday mornings for 4 hours or so and then once or twice a week at random times.

I would appreciate a reply with a little bio about yourself, availability, desired pay, skills, child rearing style and contact information. We live on the west side sc.

Helping you with Healthy Aging

Eylül 2nd, 2010 by reprecisa

Wouldn’t it be great if we could go to a fountain of youth and stay young forever? Yet, we all have to face the fact of getting old, since it’s a part of life. We have nil control over aging, since each year, you will get older on your birthday. Until we are no longer, able to be here on earth we have to work to have a degree of control over healthy aging. Nevertheless, you have choices, which include some of the things you can do to help you feel younger. Do you recall that saying you are only as old as you feel? If so then take care of yourself so that you will feel younger than you are.

What are some of the things I can do to feel younger?
You have several choices, which includes exercise and diet. This will make you feel a lot better as you start aging. You have to eat three meals a day, which your family doctor can help you decide on the right diet for you. Then while you are at the doctors you might want to ask him/her what kind of exercises you can do.

Walking is a good exercise to do, but swimming is the best exercise that you can do as long as you swim in fresh water not a pool. The bleach in the water isn’t good for you. Swimming pools are great however, since you can keep them as clean as you wish, providing you have your own pool. Remember when you start out exercising, take it slow and be careful so you do not harm your self. You can also take vitamins to help you as well. Vitamins will help the boost your mood. Vitamins will supply ingredients that boost your energy so that you can do what you want to do in life. You want to stay active to live in healthy aging. Some people are too busy to incorporate activities into their life to keep them healthy. Don’t let this be you.

Socialize with people and visit different places, doing things that you have not done but always wanted to do in life can help. Perhaps you can take a trip to Paris or England.

What are some of the things I need to stay way from?
Some of the things you may want to stay from are unwarranted stress. Stress will wear you down. Stress can affect your health, which in turn you feel ill. In fact, unwarranted stress is not good for the heart. Stress will make you feel depressed also, which shows stress is not good for the mind.

Depression is not good for you either this is another thing you will want to stay away from if you are equipped to avoid it. You will want to stay away from people that will bring you down in life. You need someone that will help uplift you, not wear you down.

Remember when you want to stay younger you have to stay healthy in order to do that you have to exercise, eat right and stay as active as you can. Adhering to the golden rules will help you to maintain and be healthy. Also, remember to visit your family doctor before starting diets, exercise or taking supplements and vitamins. If you rely on over-the-counter medicines to treat colds, consult with your doctor first. What you take may be what costs your life later.

Some over-the-counter medications are responsible for increasing the risks of heart disease, prostate cancer and so on. In fact, some supplements are responsible for these illnesses as well.

Healthy Aging and a Good Nights Sleep

Ağustos 28th, 2010 by reprecisa

Healthy Aging is getting good nights sleep

As we grow older, we need to stay active to keep our bodies and system in shape. The older a person gets the less our bodies want to function so keeping it in shape is very important for all of us, even the younger people.

Sleeping is very important to all of us as we are aging. Aging brings on a different sleep pattern and we need to learn how to control it so when it is time to sleep we sleep well. It is normal as we age that it becomes harder to get a good nights sleep and feel rested when we wake up. Sleeping is as important as our diet and activities.

Did you know that it is hard for woman to sleep more so than men in their aging years? Women have more tendencies to feel stressed out more and they sometimes are just too busy to get themselves into an exercising routine. If you don’t get enough sleep at night, it will reduce your alertness during the day because you’re tired. Long periods of sleepless nights can cause high blood pressure and isn’t good for the heart either.

There are many reasons why some people can’t achieve a restful nights sleep. Sometimes you might sleep but it is a light sleep and we need to have a deep restful REM sleep. Sometimes you may awaken during the night from pain perhaps caused from arthritis. Sometimes you may experience heartburn, which causes you to get less sleep. Snoring or feeling depressed sometimes can also cause you to loose sleep. You may have a stressful day followed by the lack of sleep. Muscles spasms can also cause a person to loose sleep.

How you can reduce the problems that cause you to loose sleep:
Caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine can cause us to lose sleep. Try not to drink liquids before going to bed, and stop smoking. Smoking not only harmful to your body but it can cause you to lose sleep. Excessive noise in the house, the TV or radio in the bedroom and snoring are some more reasons that can keep us from sleeping. Don’t try to go to bed and watch TV or listen to the radio; this will only keep you awake longer. You can learn to enjoy exercises to reduce muscles spasms and/or arthritic symptoms. You can also reduce eating unhealthy foods that cause heartburn, or drinking caffeine-based substances before you go to bed to improve your sleeping pattern.

Do you have a pet that sleeps with you? Even though you think they are giving you comfort it could cause you to lose that precious sleep you need. You may not realize it but everytime your pet moves, maybe snores; you can hear this while sleeping. Maybe you might have to get your pet a bed and let him sleep on the floor next to you. If you have allergies, your pet may be the cause, which can make you loose sleep as well.

Napping is not good if you take one during the day for more than 25 minutes. I realize that maybe your not getting enough sleep during the night and you get tired in the afternoon. However, when you lie down during the day and sleep for a long time, when it is time to go to bed, you’ve had just enough sleep that you’re not as tired.

Before you lie down to rest, you should also consider drinking a warm glass of milk. Studies have shown that warm milk helps a person to relax.
